Threads of Revival: Pal Kaur's Journey to Health

Sometimes, the most expensive treatments fail to deliver, while a simple idea can revolutionize one's health. Embracing a whole food plant-based diet is precisely that transformative idea.

Pal Kaur, a dedicated artisan, is part of a community that cherishes Phulkari, an ancient Punjabi embroidery technique. This vibrant art form was once the beating heart of the northwestern Indian subcontinent. However, the threads of this tradition unraveled under the colonial upheaval of the region’s water resources, biodiversity, and land use. Along with this disruption came a culinary shift, promoting animal proteins as superior to the indigenous, nourishing plant-based diets.

In 2018, The Virsa Foundation and its dedicated volunteers took inspiring steps to revive these lost traditions. We conducted health camps and culinary demonstrations in partnership with faith-based institutions and temples.

In the communal warmth of temple kitchens, women artisans gathered, cooking and reviving the forgotten ways of nourishing their families. Amidst these gatherings, conversations flowed freely, touching upon women’s health.

This film, a heartfelt gift from two U.K. creatives, amplifies the voices of resilient rural women artisans in India through their storytelling talent.

So, what happened to Pal Kaur? Did she discover a path to health and healing? Watch this short story to uncover her journey.
